Netflix - Marvel's Jessica Jones Merger A Hit!

Krysten Ritter, Netflix original series “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”

If you have not seen it, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Season 1 is
streaming now on Netflix. I must say that the series is nothing like I would normally
expect from  Marvel. In fact it is one of
their best. I spend most of one day watching all 13 episodes of  the series with Krysten Ritter in the titled
role, and who unexpectedly turns out to be an 'Inhuman' with the power to jump
from street to tall buildings in New York City with ease.  Jessica can also lay down a crushing punch in
a battle.

In this adaptation,
created by Melissa Rosenberg, Jessica
Jones is a drunken P.I. of Alias Investigations and a self
professed reluctant superhero.  Reluctant
hero or not she soon finds herself battling
the worse walking, talking, and breathing nightmare from her past in the
form of Kevin Thompson, aka, Kilgrave, who is played by David Tennant in one of
his darkest roles to date.

Several years earlier and during a chance encounter Jessica and
Kilgrave met. It proved to be a  Jessica is not
alone in this because everyone that meets Kilgrave, who viewers discover is also
an

Inhuman, is compelled to do horrible acts when he uses his power.

meeting that has not only left her emotionally scarred
but slightly unbalanced.

Jessica  did escaped
Kilgrave, but she never got over what he did to her, nor the things she was
forced to do. Things that effect her present day relationships.

However, Kilgrave is not the only dark secret to resurface that
is still haunting Jessica . There is Luke Cage, also an Inhuman, who possesses
a power that makes him non-killable. Because of her time with Kilgrave ]
Jessica tries to avoid Luke. As to their powers, a mysterious company called IGH
might hold clues to their origins.  But right
now, Jessica  and many more people lives
are being torn apart, they are  filled
with rage and terror because of what Kilgrave makes them do while in his
control.

There are some elements of Xena, Warrior Princess and Nikita
in Jessica Jones character makeup. While the same time, she is also feels
ineffectual and terrified in her dealing with Kilgrave.

Jessica Jones though rough around the edges is a likable
character that you want to see win. Yet, the question must be addressed.  Is the price of winning and being the hero
worth the toil it has on her emotional self?

Great series. Well worth the watch. I am very much looking
forward to season 2 next year. But time will not stop me from watching the
series again.

Jessica Jones also stars Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Rachael
Taylor as Patricia "Trish" Walker, Erin Moriarty as Hope Shlottman,
Wil Traval as Will Simpson, Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, and Carrie-Anne
Moss as Jeri Hogarth.

Syfy's Gender Switch Series

IDW Comic: Wynonna Earp

In the light of the Marvel's Comics revelation a few months
back that Jane Foster was the new Thor.  It
appears that the Syfy channel is following
suit with a couple of new series in which female characters are in lead roles that
previously were dominated by males.

The first of these series is Van Helsing and her bio is as
follows:

Van Helsing centers on Vanessa Helsing, the daughter of
famous vampire hunter and Dracula nemesis Abraham Van Helsing. She is
resurrected five years in the future to find out that vampires have taken over
the world and that she possesses unique power over them. She is humanity’s last
hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.

"Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by

challenging traditional vampire rules," said Chad Oakes, Co-Chairman of
Nomadic Pictures (Fargo, Hell on Wheels). "The series is unique in
exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters
have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their
survival."

The 13-episode series will commence with production in
January 2016 for a Fall 2016 premiere. Neil LaBute (Your Friends &
Neighbors, The Shape of Things) will serve as writer/showrunner on this new
take on the Dracula myth. -- Syfy

The second series, Wynonna
Earp
, is a supernatural series based on another well known male character
and her bio is as follows:

Based on the IDW Comic, Wynonna Earp follows Wyatt Earp's
great granddaughter as she battles demons and other creatures. With her unique
abilities, and a posse of dysfunctional allies, she's the only thing that can bring
the paranormal to justice.

Melanie Scrofano (Damien) will star as Wynonna. Tim Rozon
(Being Human, Instant Star) will play the legendary Doc Holliday and Shamier
Anderson (Defiance, Constantine) will play the enigmatic Agent Dolls. -- Syfy

IDW Comic Description:

Redneck, trailer trash, drug-running vampires, bounty-hunting
biker werewolves, immortal desperadoes, an ancient mummy hitman and the
Egyptian Mafia: these are the kinds of perpetrators that covert U.S. Marshal
Wynonna Earp hunts down on a regular basis. Created by writer Beau Smith,
Wynonna Earp is the descendant of the famous lawman Wyatt Earp. As a member of
the so-called Halloween Hunters’ or ‘Freak Finders.

This is also set for a 2016 debut.
