I admit some boredom with many of the post-apocalyptic movies over the past decade or so. Many of them have been fight, fight, fight and lack true adventure. However, Finch is truly a cut above them all. Yes, the earth is destroyed. Yes, there is danger of being fried by the sun and murdered for a can of peaches, but in Finch with Tom Hank starring in the title role, and his companions of Goodyear , a dog he loves so much that he created Jeff, a self evolving child-like, walking and talking drone in event of the unavoidable, we willingly ride along with this unlikely family in their old souped-up RV as they travel across country with the idea of arriving at their destination before an unenviable end.
Tom Hanks’ performance as Finch, the patient father who teaches Jeff as much about caring for Good-Year, survival and finally himself is to this writer - Oscar winning bonding material which equal that of ET and Elliott bond.
Finch is streaming only on AppleTV+ and I highly recommend it for all ages.
