The $30 fee is based on the belief that there an average of four to six people per family unit. What appears apparent is that Disney + may have forgotten that some family consists of one or two people. Will they too have to pay this $30 fee, especially if one takes into account that had the film debuted in the theaters as originally planned, the price for each single individual adult and senior would run between $10 and $13.50 for standard viewing, $17, and $18.50 for 3D IMAX.
Don’t get this humble reviewer wrong. I too would like to see Mulan on Disney +. However, is Disney prepared to offer a lower price to the aforementioned single-family adult and senior on Sept 4th? From the look of things, many regular subscription viewers will probably begin watching the film on Dec 4th with no additional cost incurred.
And should Mulan succeed with this type of market strategy, what will happen to home town theaters? We all know that there is an enormous drive to push further and further into the cyber age, but at what cost during this multiple global crises situation of covid19, displaced families, civil and political unrest, and high unemployment?
The timing for all this seems too much, too fast, and all wrong.
