Longmire, No Old West Saga

Longmire, No Old West Saga

by  EVELYN ALTHEIMER-FAIN on 07/27/12

In my way of thinking, the battle for Southfork and John
Ross should have taken a bit longer. Then again, perhaps it is good to see that
the Ewings will drop their in fighting to save family members and Southfork
from outside threats.

Until Longmire, I had forgotten that not all Westerns are
centered in the ‘Old West’, or that a good dramatic crime story doesn’t always
occur in a metro area. Watching Longmire reminded me, and from what I seen so
far of the series, it leaves me restlessly waiting for the next episode. Yeah,
that last is a bit over the top, but although in Longmire the crime stories are
familiar, it is the way their told that keep me watching.

The series also reminds you that there doesn’t have to be a
lot of super technology and dressed-to-the-nines characters to hold your
attention or solve a crime.

Longmire is one of A&E new original series. I hope to
see more of it. A&E new mini-series Coma
comes to television on Labor Day, Monday August 3 at 9/8c. The Ridley Scott and
Tony Scott production is a two-night event, and is based of author Robin Cook’s
1977 novel by the same name.

The brief summary:

A young female medical student,
Susan Wheeler discovers that there is something sinister happening to the
patient at Boston Memorial, and patients’ diagnoses with non-life threatening ailments
are dying in unexplainable numbers in surgery.

After the mini-series airs, check
the “The Review” section of this site for my thoughts on this newest version of
Coma.
