Is It Lucy Lawless Or Is It Xena Warrior Princess? An Article

I have come to think that the best role that the best role that Lucy Lawless has ever done is her role as Xena the Warrior Princess. Like may fan I some times follow the careers of my favorite stars. Since the conclusion to the Xena series, I briefly watched Lucy on Spartacus Blood and Sand, her cameo on Veronica Mars, the Boogeyman and other, and I saw each of her characters as an extension of Xena.
 

I am not trying to be critical of the talent of Lucy Lawless, I only think that during the production of Xena, the character was explored in many avenues (genres) that has now surface more frequently than not in her other roles. While the series was airing, we saw the Xena of the Ancient Greek to the reincarnation of Xena in 1922 Egypt. We saw her as the siren, the spy, the assassin, and the hero. We have seen her young, old, and in difference bodies. We have seen her wit, her anger, her tears, and her regrets. While this exploration into the character of Xena was exciting (and no doubt had some bearing on the number of strong female characters following her on television series like Buffy The Vampire Killer, the less successful Witch Blade and Birds of Prey) during the broadcast of the series, shouldn’t the character of Xena had been left behind at the end of sixth season. I mean, wasn’t that one of the purposes of killing off the character so that Lucy could do other acting roles and instead Xena what I see is Xena reemerging in Lucy’s non-related roles. 

 

Having stated this, I wonder what more can Lucy Lawless bring to television that does not bring to mind her most successful role. Again, I ask the question: is it Lucy or it is Xena that has drawn so many followers to an actress that apparently no matter what she has done since Xena or what roles she has in the future, within her new roles some part of will always remind us of Xena Warrior

Princess. Is this the true meaning of the Xena’s Phenomenon?

If so, is it the all in casting? Is Xena Warrior Princess such a great character, and Lucy played her well, that she is still hard to let go after so many years? Alternatively, could it be that without realizing it some of Xena spills out Lucy and into her other characters? Alternatively, is it what fans of the actress have come to expect from her? Have we as fan typed cast her in that no matter how subdued Xena reappears? Whatever, the answer for most fan of the series and Lucy Lawless, I think for me is Xena.

 In conclusion, I would like to see more originally in the characters that Lucy Lawless now plays. This has never happen with other female characters. Normally as fans, we flow smoothly with the difference character roles that any actor plays. The precious character is never forgotten if he or she is well acted but the character does not normally peep through another the new character. However, I only notice this Phenomenon with Lucy Lawless.

What these characters have in common is power to project courage, strength, loyalty to herself and her cause. Beautiful they are portrayed, but it is their also savage and sometimes unrestrained brutality that holds us. They are women with purpose that goes beyond the normal. They are the mold breakers. They sometimes wish for normal lives, only to knowledge deep

with in the marrow of their bones that it is the adventure and the hunt that drives them each day. And as they continue to follow theirs heroes path that death may await at its end.
