From Warrior Princess To Jailhouse Mama Lucy Lawless Does Chicago

The New Zealand actress and environmentalist, Lucy Lawless first came to my in The Ray Bradbury Theater series in which she played wife, Liddy Barton, whom husband want to rid himself of his Liddy's disapproving grandmother in Season 6, Episode 13 Fee Fie Foe Fum (1992). Then again in the international Universal series Hercules the Legendary Journeys where she played several characters. Lawless performances in the series made her stand out, and in when another actress who was originally to play the role of Xena Warrior Princess fell ill, Lucy Lawless was the natural choice the replace her.

Lawless’ charismatic personality, natural sensuality, and wiliness to perform the tough, rough, and often shady lady scenes made her on-screen presents an instant winner among fans of the series and soon ignited the still popular spin-off series Xena Warrior Princess.

After playing the warrior for several years, Xena Warrior Princess finally ended. What came next was several guest starring roles of series Veronica Mars, The XS-Files, and of latest three of the four loosely based adaptations of Spartacus on Starz Original series followed by a recurring role on Parks and Recreation.

Now, after empty speculation as to the return of the series Xena Warrior Princess, Lucy Lawless has turned her talents to the live stage production of the musical Chicago, which is a musical that explores the themes of celebrity, scandal, and corruption in the 1920s Jazz Age of Chicago. I believe this is a good move for Lucy. I believe her to be an underrated multi-talented woman who rejoices in her freedom of sexual expression and in her role as the jail matron "Mama" Morton (a major role perfected by Queen Latifa in the 2002 film production of Chicago) that fact will be reflected.
Stars of Chicago include Brooke Shields, Lucy Lawless, Samantha Barks, Stephen Moyer, and Drew Carey. Chicago will run July 26, 27, and 28 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and again in from November 1 thru 24 at the Auckland Theatre Company and Michael Hurst will direct.
