Like many reviewers I have spent a lot of time watching the
summer series. From what I have seen so far I am mostly impressed by the series
offered to viewers this summer. It would
seem that the networks, especially the cable networks and premium programming like Starz and Showtime are filling the small screen with likable
series.
To get to my point, below are my favorite series of summer 2014, as well as the series that
did not hold my attention for long. As you probably guessed by now, I have rated them in three categories as follow: The
Good, the Great, and the Why is this
on the air?.
The first category, THE GOOD - Although I like these series and I feel that
they are entertaining, some of the episodes might still be on my DVR recorder
waiting to be seen when there is nothing better on the air.

Among this group there are three series which have stood out above the rest this summer and they are The Last Ship, a military/science fiction drama about saving humanity from a deadly virus, Penny Dreadful, a clever retelling of the classic stories originally featured in the penny dreadful of 19th-century British fiction, and The Strain, which is also a clever retelling of the classic vampire story. All three of these series are well written, well portrayed by talented actors, and on the edge of your seat entertaining,
The third and last category. WHY IS THIS ON THE AIR?- These are the series I felt that were
put out there to fill air space until the fall programming season started. At first I found them interesting or fun .
However, they soon lost their appeal and I either watched them to see how their
season finales would end or stopped watch them altogether. These are also the series
in which I would be very surprise to see renewed for summer 2015.
