Person of Interest: Passenger 4C, Salvation

Person of Interest Season 3: Episode 13, 4C that aired on 01/14/2014 was a great after holiday’s comeback
episodes in Person of Interest
history. Since the death of Detective Joss Carter, Reese has been filled with a
massive dose of guilt over her death. He has also been filled doubt that his work
is really helping save lives. Carrying these burdens Reese  quit his job and set out on a soul seeking quest
that involved doing anything except working for Harold Finch and in particular
the “Machine”.

However,
Reese some discovers that the “Machine”
has other plans for him, which involves rescuing a high-tech web designer named,
Owen , who has managed to create a software program to cripple the illegal sale
of online drugs while slimming a $100 + plus off the bottom for himself.

The
action is centered on a commercial jet and Reese has 8-hours to safeguard Owen from
several cartel assassins, who are all trapped aboard the jet.

The
only help Reese has is a female flight attendant, Finch via a cell phone
connection,  in which he relays
information from
Samantha Shaw and
her old employer’s connections,
and although Reese is reluctant to work with
it, the “Machine”

.

The
action and tension of the 4C is worthy of a full length featured film like Harrison
Ford’s Air force One, and Wesley Snipes’ Passenger 57.

As
hoped, after the all the bad guys are put down and Owen is safe, Reese realizes
that his saving of Owen and the other 136 passengers (himself included) aboard
the airline put his purpose and true calling with Finch and the “Machine” back in the right perspective.

Reese
meets Finch in Rome where he tells him that he is in need of a new suit so he
can return to work. This was an emotional moment of relief for all
Person of Interest’s
viewers that were surprised and upset by Carter’s death. Grant it, Reese
had taken his grief too far, and he really needed to stop
running from the one thing that gave his life purpose, even if that means his
true boss was the “Machine”.

Personally,
I think it is time the “Machine” acquired
a speaking voice. If Amy Acker character of Root were surely dead, than the “Machine” adoption of her voice would
seem appropriate, if not a little unsettling giving Root’s psychotic and dissociated
personality traits. What married of heaven and hell that would be for both Finch
and Reese?
