Jude Law as Pope Pius XIII
|
The Young Pope is a fictional tale
about Lenny Belardo, who becomes Pope Pius XIII and the first ever American
pope. It is a controversial tale about the early reign of his pontificate. As Pius XII he is described as a complex and
conflicted character who is said to be so conservative in his choices as to
border on obscurantism (the practice of deliberately preventing the facts or
full details of something from becoming known). He is a man full of compassion
towards the weak and poor, and as the first American pope, he wheels great
power and is stubbornly resistant to the Vatican courtiers while remaining unconcerned
with the implications to his authority. -- Widescreen
