The Original The Eerie Warmth Of New Orleans To The Small Screen

The CW is The Originals,
and
The
Vampire Diaries
spin-off, debut last night. From what
this reviewer saw, the first episode,
#101- Always and Forever, was a rehash  of what aired  as The Vampire Diaries ‘ Special last fall.
There were a few fresh scenes, which made the episode interesting and the viewers
now know that Marcel, played by Charles Michael Davis, relationship with his young
psychic, Davina, played by Danielle Campbell, is friendlier
than first thought of during the closing of the special. Viewers also know that
Davina is also a witch whom power is bugging without Marcel knowledge. Will she
betray his to Klaus?

Here are some thoughts I had while looking the
episode. First, the located of the Originals first American home is New
Orleans. This knowledge made me think of Louis from Anne Rice’s An Interview
with A vampire. Second, there is Klaus, played by Joseph Morgan, and Elijah,
played by Daniel Gillies, need for ‘family’. With Hayley, Phoebe Tonkin, baring
Klaus child (a boy as we learn in this episode), she is danger not only from
the witches but also with Klaus, as he rather have Hayley and the unborn child
dead. Nevertheless, it is not hard to imagine Elijah as the over indulging
uncle and Klaus as the selfish standoffish father to a young highbred child, a
child who because of his mother is more wolf than vampire.

Again, my mind runs to Louis, Lestat and of course
the accursed child vampire, Claudia from Anne Rice’s Vampire’s Chronicles. But
hey, there were other vampires and monsters around Letat’s small group of fiends
that they never associated with in New Orleans.

This being the case, I can forever, the similarities
that I see in The Originals and enjoy it on its on merit of creativity to which
I believe will be very entertaining.

The Originals will air on Tuesday nights at 8 pm followed
by The Vampires, which airs on Thursday nights 8 pm.

Speaking of The Vampire Diaries, it returned this
week with a very exciting opening episode (#501- I Know What You Did Last
Summer). With a title like that I know, you know where what film it originated.
Still, in the episode we found the vampire girls Elena and Caroline, played by
Nina Dobrev  and Candice Accola, starting
their first year of college. Stefan, played by Paul Wesley,  tied up and locked down in a box at the bottom
of Mystic Falls river, and Katherine  is
a miserable human,  and Bonnie, played by
Kat Graham, still a ghost, and by the end of the episode Elena’s brother, Jeremy,
played by  Steven R. McQueen, dead again and revived by Damon again.

Question: how often can Jeremy die before he is
beyond returning?

Question: what vampire killed Elena and Caroline’s
unwanted roommate? Is it really another vampire or a hunter posing as a
vampire?

Nevertheless, this fifth season of The Vampire is
promising and with all CW’s series, I hope it will do well in the rating.

With all the new horror and science fictions series
debuting this fall competition will be tight. We have already lost
Nikita,
which will probably air it is final six episodes during the mid-season break.
